How it works is really pretty simple. You will make a small change to your application and have it periodically produce a short XML data file that follows our simple specification and save it to a specific location on the file-system. We'll do all the rest! We'll even provide you with a freely redistributable, reliable, old-fashioned MS Windows API dll which you can use to determine if the RSM Publisher service is installed, and where you need to put your data files!
Even if you don't provide the type of after-sale support that would require this type of system monitoring, what about your clients? It's pretty rare these days when an opportunity presents itself that allows you to provide an enhancement to your product which can add so much value with so little effort!
The RSM Monitor allows you to:
- See up to the minute system information on your client computers!
- Create an unlimited number of custom RSM Profiles
- Create RSM Alerts to send you (or your client) an email if something goes wrong or a station does not report in!
- Remote Control: Start and stop services on your client's computers
- Have your client's computer generate detailed system information reports and email them to you!
- Set up 'Proxy' log ons giving other people (your staff or the customer) access to your monitor!
- Run built-in RSM reports
- Manage your RSM Account. Membership, billing, utilization, transaction history etc all from within the application!
We'll briefly touch on each of these points in the following paragraphs, for a full account of the inner working of the RSM Monitor you should read the RSM Monitor Manual.
Monitor your data
The Monitor lets you view the data from any number of sources using a variety of filters so that you are only presented with the information you're interested in. You can log in with your RSM credentials at ANY computer in the world which has the Remote Services Monitor installed and access your personal RSM Monitor safely and securely (no data is permanently stored on the computer), when you log out your session is completely cleared!Create and maintain RSM Profiles
An RSM Profile is essentially a list of MS Windows Services. You create RSM Profiles as templates which can then be deployed to Stations (Client computers running the RSM Publisher Service). Each profile can have different RSM Alerts associated with it.Create and maintain RSM Alerts
RSM Alerts can be created for one client or ALL clients. Once triggered, an alert can generate a customized email to up to three different recipients.Start and stop services running on your cient's machines
You can easily stop and start a Windows Service running on any of your client's computer from the RSM Monitor (assuming that the client has granted you permission).Run System Reports from your client's computer.
One click against any Station and within a few minutes you can be reading a comprehensive System Information Report containing, among other things:- Hardware profile
- Disk drive availability
- Full Windows Services list and status
Set up Proxies
In RSM, a Proxy is someone who you nominate to have access to your RSM Monitor. Your Proxies can have read-only access or full administrative rights (ie., the ability to create and maintain profiles and alerts). Proxies are a useful way to separate RSM Account holders from, say, technical staff (for example, the Accounts department may actually own and pay for the RSM subscription, but they do not administer the day-to-day running of the RSM Account - that is handled by the Support Department. So, Accounts simply make Support an administrative Proxy). Further reading of this subject is recommended (see the RSM Monitor manual).Run Reports
The Monitor comes with a number of reports, including:- Installations - Detailed list of all Stations running your RSM Profiles.
- Outstanding Profiles Activation - List of all uncompleted Profile assignments.
- Proxies - All your Proxy details - both ways (where you are a proxy 'member' and where you are a proxy 'owner'.
- RSM Data - All your current RSM data, using the prevailing filter settings.
- ... and more
