For a detailed explanation of this screen see the RSM Publisher Service on-line manual.

RSM Publisher Service

The RSM Publisher Service is a freely distributable component of the RSM system. When installed on a computer/server with an internet connection it will periodically send system information about that computer ONLY to RSM members authorized and approved by you. The system information sent by the Publisher is designed specifically to aid support personnel in their quest to provide you with better software/network support. Private information is NEVER sent.

The installation and set up has been designed to be quick and painless and requires only the most basic familiarity with the software, and Windows installations in general.

The RSM Publisher Service is made up of two applications: a Windows Service that publishes specific system information about the computer it's installed on to 1 or more RSM members authorized by you, and a Configuration program that allows you to manage that service. There is absolutely nothing hidden in the installation process. It will install ONLY 2 software programs and the MS Windows support files needed for them to run. The RSM Publisher Service can be uninstalled or disabled at any time by you using the standard MS Windows Add/Remove programs processes that are familiar to anyone who's ever installed or uninstalled MS Windows Software.

Security and Trust. All RSM applications and installations are digitally signed by HermeTech International Ltd with an internationally recognized certifying authority (www.thawte.com) and all internet traffic is secured using bank grade encryption (https) provided to HermeTech by Verisign (www.verisign.com).

The user interface in the configuration program has been specifically engineered to streamline the setup and configuration process.

In fact, once the application has been installed, there are only three tasks that are required:

  1. Enter information to identify the installation to (this need only be done once).
  2. Install an RSM Profile (a list of MS Windows Services created for you by an RSM member in the Remote Services Monitor application).
  3. Start the RSM Publisher Service.
Many installations will only require that each of the above tasks be done once following installation. From that point on the RSM Publisher should run without any further managing. One thing to keep in mind though is that the applications do send and receive information over the internet. It may be necessary to configure any software or hardware firewalls to let the RSM applications through. See the online documentation for further information.
